Johnny Pacheco

Johnny Pacheco (born March 25, 1935 in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic ) is a multi-instrumentalist (flute, saxophone, percussion), composer, producer and band leader. In particular, he has made a name for himself as one of the founders of the record company Fania Records .

He moved to New York with his father, also a musician, in the late 1940s. There he called in 1964 with the American-Italian lawyer Jerry Masucci Fania Records . The record label mainly releases Puerto Rican and Cuban influenced New York salsa and other Latin American music. Like many Fania artists, such as Ruben Blades and Willie Colón , Pacheco is also politically active, e. B. in the fight against AIDS .
