Poplarville is a city of around 2000 residents in the US state of Mississippi and the seat of the county seat of the Pearl River Counties .

The town's history dates back to 1879 when the local post office was founded by "Poplar" Jim Smith. This gave the city its characteristic name. In 1884, Poplarville was accepted by the State of Mississippi as an independent administrative unit.
