Pearl River County is a county in the US state of Mississippi . The county seat is Poplarville . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the extreme south of Mississippi, borders Louisiana to the west and is about 25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico to the south. history

Pearl River County was formed on February 22, 1890 from parts of Hancock County and Marion County. It was named after the Pearl River that runs here .

One site in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of February 2, 2018.

According to the 2000 census , Pearl River County had 48,621 people in 18,078 households and 13,576 families. The population density was 23 people per square kilometer.
