The Jasper County is a county in the US state of Mississippi . The county seats are Bay Springs and Paulding . This makes Jasper County one of the ten counties in Mississippi that have two county administrations.

The county is located in southeastern Mississippi, about 60 km to the east from Alabama , and has an area of 1,755 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Jasper County was formed from the Mobile District on December 23, 1833. It was named after William Jasper , a soldier and hero in the American Revolutionary War .
Five buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 1, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Jasper County had 18,149 people in 6,708 households and 4,957 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 46.47 percent white, 52.88 percent African American, 0.07 percent Native American, 0.07 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.08 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.41 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 0.64 percent of the population.
Of the 6,708 households, 35.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.9 percent were married couples living together, 18.2 percent were single mothers, and 26.1 percent were non-families. 24.2 percent of all households were single households and 11.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.19.
27.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.6 percent between 18 and 24, 26.7 percent between 25 and 44, 21.9 percent between 45 and 64 years old, and 13.9 percent were 65 years or older . The median age was 35 years. Statistically, for every 100 females there were 91.0 males and for every 100 females aged 18 or over there were 87.3 males.
The average income of a household amounted to 24,441 USD , for a family is 29,951 USD. Males had a median income of $ 27,183 versus $ 17,260 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,889. About 19.3 percent of families and 22.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
