The Bolivar County is a county in the US state of Mississippi . The county seat is Cleveland , which was named after the city of the same name Cleveland in Ohio and Rosedale . It is one of the ten counties in Mississippi that have two county administrations.

The county is located in the northwest of the Mississippi, borders Arkansas to the west , the natural border being formed by the Mississippi . Bolivar County has an area of 2346 square kilometers, of which 76 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Bolivar County was formed on February 9, 1836 from parts of Choctaw Land . It was named after Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), a South American independence fighter and national hero of many South American countries.
One place has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the IT Montgomery House . A total of 15 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 1, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Bolivar County had 40,633 people in 13,776 households and 9,725 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 33.24 percent white, 65.11 percent African American, 0.10 percent Native American, 0.49 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.48 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.56 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.17 percent of the population.
Of the 13,776 households, 35.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 38.2 percent were married couples living together, 27.3 percent were single mothers, and 29.4 percent were non-families. 25.3 percent of all households were single households and 9.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.36 people.
29.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 14.0 percent between 18 and 24, 25.7 percent between 25 and 44, 19.6 percent between 45 and 64 years old, and 11.0 percent were 65 years or older . The average age was 30 years. Statistically, for every 100 females there were 87.8 males and for every 100 females aged 18 or over there were 81.7 males.
The average income of a household amounted to 23,428 USD , for a family is 27,301 USD. Males had a median income of $ 27,643 versus $ 20,774 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,088. About 27.9 percent of families and 33.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
