Joseph Warren

Warren County was formed on December 22, 1809 from the Natchez District. It was named after Joseph Warren (1741-1775), a military officer who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill .

In Warren County there is a National Military Park , the Vicksburg National Military Park . Three locations have National Historic Landmark status , Fort St. Pierre Site , Pemberton's Headquarters, and the Old Warren County Courthouse . 72 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 31, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Warren County had 49,644 people in 18,756 households and 13,222 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 54.97 percent white, 43.19 percent African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 0.62 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.33 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.66 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.04 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups.
