The Clarke County is a county in the US state of Mississippi . The county seat is Quitman , named after John A. Quitman , a governor and member of the United States Congress . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

history

Clarke County was formed in 1833 from parts of Washington County. It was named after Joshua G. Clarke , a Mississippi Supreme Court Justice.
