history

Simpson County was formed on January 23, 1824 from parts of Choctaw land . It was named after Josiah Simpson , a member of the Mississippi Constitutional Convention .

As of the 2000 census , Simpson County had 27,639 people in 10,076 households and 7,385 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer.
