A. Jackson

Jackson County was formed on December 18, 1812 from the Mobile District. It was named after Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), the seventh President of the United States.

According to the 2000 census , Jackson County had 131,420 people in 47,676 households and 35,709 families. The population density was 70 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 75.35 percent white, 20.87 percent African American, 0.33 percent Native American, 1.57 percent Asian, 0.04 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.72 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.12 percent were descended from two or more races.
