The Tallahatchie County is a county in the US state of Mississippi . The county seats are Charleston and Sumner , making Tallahatchie County one of the ten counties in Mississippi that have two county administrations.

The county is located in northwest Mississippi and has an area of ​​1,689 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Tallahatchie County was formed on December 31, 1833 from parts of Choctaw land . It was named after the Tallahatchie River that runs here .

According to the 2000 census , Tallahatchie County had 14,903 people in 5,263 households and 3,826 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 39.62 percent white, 59.43 percent African American, 0.09 percent Native American, 0.36 percent Asian and 0.05 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.46 percent were descended from two or more races.
