history

Itawamba County was formed from Indian land on February 9, 1836. It was named after an Indian chief.

One place in the county is on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 1, 2018), the Pharr Mounds archaeological site .

According to the 2000 census , Itawamba County had 22,770 people in 8,773 households and 6,500 families. The population density was 17 people per square kilometer.
