The Prentiss County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Mississippi . In 2010 , the county had 25,276 residents and a population density of 23.5 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Booneville , named after Daniel Boone , a US pioneer and border guard who developed the so-called Wilderness Trail and founded the town of Boonesborough in Kentucky . The county is one of the dry countieswhich means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the far northeast of Mississippi and is about 15 miles from Alabama and Tennessee . It has an area of 1083 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Prentiss County:

history
Prentiss County was formed on April 15, 1870 from parts of Tishomingo County. It was named after Seargent Smith Prentiss (1808-1850), a member of the US House of Representatives (1838-1839).
One place in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 2, 2018), the Downtown Booneville Historic District .
