Aquarela do Brasil

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aquarela do Brasil ( Portuguese for watercolor of Brazil ) is a samba title composed in 1939 by the Brazilian composer Ary Barroso . In an abbreviated form, it became internationally known under the English title Brazil when Walt Disney used it in his 1942 film Saludos Amigos ( Three Caballeros in Samba Fever ). In 1944 Barroso was nominated for an Oscar for it.

As a result of this popularity, Aquarela do Brasil was republished by numerous artists in the decades that followed. The title was also reused as a film score. In 1985 Terry Gilliam used it as music for his film Brazil , for which he was largely inspired by the title.
