Saludos Amigos , sold in German-speaking countries before 2004 under the titles Drei Caballeros im Samba fever and Grüß 'Euch , is the sixth full-length animated film from the Walt Disney Studios and dates from 1943. The film, shot using the complex Technicolor process, is the first of six films between 1943 and 1949 made up of different segments rather than a single story. The film premiered in Germany on March 17, 1953 and in Austria on March 26, 1954.

action

The film consists of four cartoon segments, which are linked by a real film framework:

Lake Titicaca
shows Donald on his journey through the Andes to Lake Titicaca .
Pedro
shows the story of Pedro, the baby airplane that has to fly through the Andes to replace his father's post.
Gaucho Goofy
shows Goofy as a gaucho in Argentina .
Aquarela do Brasil
is the first appearance by José Carioca, who teaches Donald to dance samba .

Others

With a running time of 43 minutes, Saludos Amigos is so far the shortest full-length cartoon from the Walt Disney Studios .

The world premiere was on August 24, 1942 in Rio de Janeiro, making the film the first Disney film that was not premiered in the United States. In the USA it started on February 6, 1943; a rerun followed in 1949. It was released on video in the 1980s , on laser disc in 1995 and on DVD in 2004 . The title song was also reused as background music in the follow-up film " Drei Caballeros " ( The Three Caballeros , 1944).

The Samba - a Samba exaltada , to be precise - Aquarela do Brasil , also known simply as Brazil , became world famous through film and has since been used often as a background soundtrack to film material describing Brazil.

In America as well as in Germany, a short scene in which Goofy smokes a cigarette is censored on the DVD and more recent video releases. José "Zé" Papagaio is still allowed to pull on his cigar, which Donald has lit.
