Joe Grant (* 15. May 1908 in New York City ; † 6. May 2005 in Glendale , California ) was an American comic book - author , who especially for many screenplays of Disney drew -Animationsfilme responsible.

education and profession

After training at the Chouinard Art Institute , Grant worked as a cartoonist for the American daily Los Angeles Record , which appeared in LA between 1895 and 1933. Walt Disney discovered the young Grant and asked him to develop characters for the 1933 Mickey Mouse cartoon "Mickey's Big Show" ( Mickey's Gala Premiere ). After further jobs as a freelancer for Disney, while working on " Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs " (1937) , Joe Grant received an offer from Disney to work entirely for the specially created "Character Model Department". It was not until 1949, after the department was closed, that Grant left the company and founded several successful companies, including a porcelain factory ( Opechee Design ) and a company for greeting postcards ( Castle Ltd. ). In 1989, Grant returned to Disney to develop Beauty and the Beast and worked there until his death. In 1992 he received the Disney Legends Award for his services . Grant died of a heart attack on May 6, 2005 over the drawing board .
