Por una cabeza ( Spanish : 'around the head [of a horse]') is a popular tango by Carlos Gardel (music) and Alfredo Le Pera (text) from 1935. The song comes from the musical film Tango Bar by John Reinhardt and is about a notorious gambler who describes his addiction to gambling in connection with horse racing with the attraction of a woman.

Le Pera and Gardel died together in a plane crash in Medellín , Colombia, on June 24, 1935. The premiere of the film Tango Bar took place a few days later on July 5, 1935 in New York .

Melodic origin

The most memorable part of the melody comes from Mozart's Rondo for violin and orchestra in C major (KV 373) (after two thirds of the piece).
