Llambis Tanzduell is an offshoot of Let's Dance , the pilot episode of which was broadcast on April 19, 2019 on RTL . The remaining six editions of the season were shown between April 19 and May 24, 2020.

procedure

In each episode, "Let's Dance" juror Joachim Llambi sends two professional dancers or celebrities abroad, where they learn unknown local dances. They are supported by local dance trainers. Afterwards, both of them will present their skills in front of spectators in national costume together with a local dance group and also solo. Back in Germany, the professional dancers meet Llambi again and review their experiences with the images. At the end of the dance, the local dance trainers and Llambi give it a grade between 1 and 10. The sum of both points awarded determines the winner of the duel.

Duels

Hula

In the opening edition, Massimo Sinató and Christian Polanc competed against each other on the Hawaiian island of Oahu . There they were instructed in the traditional folk dance hula by a men's dance group .

Sabar

Oana Nechiti and Kathrin Menzinger traveled to the colorful and original world of Senegal , where they learned the traditional expressive dance Sabar in Dakar - for example on the island of Ngor or in the desert. This is - after its name - accompanied by drummers who respond directly to the dancers and add accents to the dynamic turns. Hands and feet should tell their own story and the body should connect with the earth. The reaction patterns carried by sweeping and rotating arm and leg movements were taught to the guests by choreographer Yelli Thioune and his combo African Ndiguel .

Halling

For a rematch, Massimo Sinató and Christian Polanc went to cold Norway to compete in the Halling . The popular dance is not only characterized by an alternation of choreography and improvisation, but also contains acrobatic elements that make the performance a special challenge. It is also closely connected to nature, which is why the preparation, which was accompanied by choreographer Hallgrim Hansegård and his dance combination FRIKAR , also took place in snow and ice in order to be able to consciously perceive the ground.

Haka

With Pascal Hens and Ingolf Lück , two season winners were sent into a winning duel. In New Zealand they were guests of the Māori tribe of the Ngāpuhi and their chief Hone Mihaka, where they underwent martial training to become a warrior. Part of this is the ritual dance Haka , which, due to its warlike origins, was performed prior to armed conflicts to intimidate enemies. Facial expressions therefore play a central role, which is carried out by rolling the eyes, sticking out the tongue and making grimaces. It is also used to greet guests. There is no musical accompaniment, the rhythm is generated by chanting . In order to give the performance even more tension and aggression, the words of this chant, which the guests learn first, are shouted out and also performed with striking movements with sticks. The exchange of aggressive looks symbolizes the memory of a pain. The performance of the visitors opened with the singing of traditional songs.

Kazbeguri

In the Georgian capital Tbilisi , Erich Klann and Valentin Lusin visited the academy of the dance legend Fridon Sulaberidze. Together with the Rustavi ensemble , he introduced the newcomers to the particularly masculine, powerful and challenging wedding dance Kazbeguri, which is characterized by very fast steps and is particularly traditional in the mountain regions. As with other Georgian dances, its origins lie in military movements, sports games, and festive dances that were performed as early as the Middle Ages and are among their most difficult forms. It is shaped by the alternation of solo variation and the choreography in the formation. For appearances in the theater, the national dress was put on with the Tschocha , which is based on the historical soldier's costume.

Scissor dance

Surrounded by majestic mountains, Sergiu Luca and Evgeny Vinokurov immersed themselves in the art of the religiously influenced Danza de las Tijeras in the Peruvian Andes , which is performed in honor of nature, for the "mother of the earth" and both the world and the elixirs of life Water and air pays homage. Daring jumps require the courage of the strongest men, as landings on the ground are done with full swing on your back or butt. With a ritual offering to nature in the Bosque de Piedra de Sachapite, a spiritual place at 4500 meters above sea level, they asked the mountain gods for protection from injuries and strength for victory. The metallic sound of the scissors, which are guided in a beautiful, elegant way, is intended to imitate both the sounds of the wind, which is represented in the dance, and the melody of the waterfalls. In the play of these simulated castanets lies the rhythm that must be coordinated with the sequence of steps. The enormous height had a major impact on the training in the historic Santa Bárbara mercury mine, which was accompanied by Damián de la Cruz together with his nephew Ulises and a folk dance group. The host, known under the name "Ccarccaria", has not yet lost a competition in this discipline and is considered an ambassador of scissor dance in his home country. The hard-working competitors finally showed their acquired skills on the hard stone floor in front of the main church of Huancavelica in valuable costumes, which symbolize nature - the plants, flowers and archaeological finds of the region - in all its colors.

Irish dance

After all, Isabel Edvardsson and Marta Arndt were looking forward to getting to know the tap dance that is based there in Galway , a port city on the “Green Island” of Ireland . This is characterized by an upright posture and nimble feet. Its complexity lies particularly in the many different sequences of steps which, however, are often similar to one another due to their numerous individual steps. Being able to memorize the sequence of a dance makes it easier to train for years as a matter of course, its speed requires not only the position of the feet but also additional precession in turns, jumps and build-up, which is an extremely demanding technique. By wearing a lot of tap shoes, not only can you hear every step, errors are also immediately noticeable - especially in formation dancing, where synchronicity is the top priority. Not least because of this, Irish dance is now strictly regulated and a recognized competitive sport. One of the leading tap dancers worldwide is Chris Naish, who previously performed in shows such as Lord of the Dance and Riverdance and later founded the ensemble Fusion Fighters . Together with some members, he prepared the two challengers first in a medieval castle and then in the dance studio so that they could prove themselves to their audience. The gig, which opened directly with the two solo parts, took place in the famous O'Connor’s pub and was a. accompanied by bodhráns , the typical local drums.
