Halling , also known as Hallingdans or Lausdans , is a traditional folk dance in Norway but also in western Sweden, especially Värmland and Dalarna , in 6/8 or 2/4 time with approx. 100 to 115 beats per minute . Halling is originally a male dance that is danced solo with different sequences of steps that are individually strung together. More or less athletic inserts are built into the dance, with which the dancer proves his skills. The highlight of halling is the Hallingkast , in which the dancer tries to hit a hat that is held up by another person with a pole while jumping with his foot.

In Norway, variants of male dances already existed in various regions before the dance style from the Hallingdal area became more and more widespread in the 19th century and also coined the name of the dance.
