The tenth season of the Live - dance show Let's Dance ran between 17 March and 9 June 2017th
The show
On the occasion of the tenth season anniversary, some innovations were introduced. On February 24th, three weeks before the actual start of the season, the first live broadcast took place under the title “Who is dancing with whom? - The big introductory show ” , in which this year's dance couples were announced. The day before, celebrities and professional dancers met in order to work out a choreography within one day and to train for their first appearance. For this purpose, the participants were randomly assigned to different teams to present Cha-Cha-Cha, Waltz and Quickstep. As part of these group dances, each celebrity received its own individual evaluation by the jury, points were awarded on this evening at the same time instead of one after the other as usual. On the basis of these results as well as the audience voting, a winner was determined with Vanessa Mai who was secured by a direct ticket in the first round of the competition and therefore could not be eliminated. The evening was rounded off by an appearance by last year's winner Victoria Swarovski as well as a look back at the best jury moments and the highlights of all previous seasons.
The gender-separated team battle, a novelty from the previous season, was continued in the fourth show on April 7th, whereby the choreographies no longer had to be based on the music clip of the given piece. Again the men could win the duel.
The celebrities and their coaches had to face another group competition in the seventh live broadcast on May 5th. As in season 9 , the captains of the two competing teams were determined by the highest jury ratings of the previous week. Vanessa Mai nominated Faisal Kawusi, Cheyenne Pahde and Heinrich Popow for her selection. Together they competed with a Top Gun medley consisting of the titles You've Lost That Lovin 'Feelin' ( The Righteous Brothers ), Danger Zone ( Kenny Loggins ) and Take My Breath Away ( Berlin ) and won over the troupe around Angelina Kirsch. This in turn decided on Giovanni Zarrella, Gil Ofarim and Maximilian Arland as comrades-in-arms, who created a choreography for the ABBA songs Money, Money, Money , Mamma Mia and The Winner Takes It All from the film Mamma Mia! presented. After putting together their teams, the participants experienced the given musical framework for their performances directly after the sixth show on April 28th.
As part of the dance duels, which took place in the second part of the ninth live broadcast on May 19, flamenco was also danced for the first time . One week later, the merger was continued, which was part of the show for the first time last year as a pure couple dance. Here, two different dance styles are combined into one overall performance - this year to well-known hits. In the semifinals on June 2nd, the challenge of improv dances was increased significantly by reducing the usual preparation time from 20 minutes to 180 seconds. The candidates drew the appropriate dance styles and music titles from a lottery drum after they had previously been allocated by the jury.
Even before the opening broadcast, Pietro Lombardi, the first candidate, was eliminated from the field because he had recently suffered a fracture in his ankle. In his place, on March 3, Giovanni Zarrella was nominated, who started the regular competition with Lombardi's planned dance partner Christina Luft. Bastiaan Ragas was not allowed to train five days before the first show after an appendectomy and therefore could not appear in it. At the end of the fourth show, Isabel Edvardsson announced that she was pregnant and that she was leaving the current season. Her prominent student Maximilian Arland trained with Sarah Latton from then on , while Giovanni Zarrella got Marta Arndt as his new dance partner shortly before the start of the sixth show on April 21 , after Christina Luft broke her foot during the dress rehearsal the evening before. Both were able to return to the dance floor when Heinrich Popow was finally advised against further participation on 23 May by a doctor because of an inflammation in his stump and a suspected tendon tear in his right shoulder.
On April 21st, an eight-part exclusive special series started with Frauke Ludowig , who gave a look behind the scenes immediately after the current live show. The focus was not only on interviews with the departed couple, analyzes with prominent guests from the audience or answering questions from the audience. In the Second Chance section , former candidates from previous seasons also demonstrated their skills once again by producing a professional dance video that was shown during the broadcast. These reports, which lasted around 45 minutes in total, were another special feature of the format's anniversary year as a German adaptation.
Former candidates and professional dancers as well as the current jury dared to take a more detailed look back than in the introductory show, presented in the concluding special program Let's Dance - The Most Beautiful Moments on June 16, by commenting on clips on certain catchwords, which are lined up in alphabetical order.
