Rhythms del Mundo - Cuba is an album on which well-known Cuban Son musician with internationally known rock - and pop -Musikern worked together. Represented, for example, Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo of the Buena Vista Social Club , as well as Coldplay , U2 , Sting , Dido , Arctic Monkeys , Franz Ferdinand and Rodrigo y Gabriela .
All the artists involved in this album support the British organization Artists' Project Earth in their Stop Global Warming campaign . The association, which acts as victim support in natural disasters, endeavors to stimulate a new awareness of the dangers of climate change and global warming .
The pieces on the album are produced and recorded in the Cuban musical style Son Cubano , but sung by the original interpreters. In addition to pieces of music such as Clocks by Coldplay , Better Together by Jack Johnson , She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5 , High and Dry by Radiohead, it also features As Time Goes By , the last recording of multiple Grammy award winner Ibrahim Ferrer, who died in 2005 .
The album was recorded from April 2005 to June 2006 at Abdala Studios in Havana . Many musicians from the Buena Vista Social Club collaborated, including Barbarito Torres , Amandito Valdes , Virgilio Valdes , Angel Terri Domech , Manuel Mirabal , Orlando López and Demetrio Muniz . Kenny Young and the German-based producer team Berman Brothers are responsible for the idea and production of the project .
In 2008, Rhythms del Mundo - Cubano Alemán was created using the same principle, an album with German artists. The album Rhythms del Mundo - Classics was released in July 2009. Other albums based on this principle are Rhythms del Mundo - Revival and Rhythms del Mundo - Africa from 2010 and 2012, respectively.
