title

According to an interview with Gabalier, the expression Hulapalu comes from his former girlfriend Silvia Schneider , who once said to him at the front door "It doesn't go that fast with the Hulapalu, dear Andi!" He has not received an explanation of the exact meaning since then.

Commercial win

Hulapalu reached position 13 in the charts in Germany. In Austria, the single reached position ten and was able to stay in the top 10 for a week and 91 weeks in the charts. In Switzerland the single reached position four. For Gabalier it is the eleventh chart success in his home country Austria, as well as the fifth in Germany and the fourth in Switzerland. It is his sixth top 10 success in Austria and after Amoi seg 'ma uns his second in Switzerland.

In Germany it is common that remixes or own cover versions have to deviate from the original to a certain extent in order to achieve a separate chart listing. That was not the case with the MTV unplugged version with the 257s, so the sales in Germany are added to the original.

In 2018, the single was awarded a triple golden record in Germany for over 600,000 units sold. This makes it the best-selling single Gabaliers and one of the best - selling German-language hits and songs of folk music in Germany .
