The song is about not giving up. It was written Ke $ has after a party night. The piece is rapped in the stanzas and sung in the chorus. The singing was partly helped with auto-tune effects. P. Diddy adopted some ad-libs .
reception
Tik Tok received mixed reviews. Some critics praised the party atmosphere the song spreads, others criticized the similarity to Lady Gaga or Uffie . The New York Times named it one of the most successful white-girl rap songs of all time. The song topped the charts in eleven countries, including the USA, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The song sold five million downloads in the United States alone. With 12.8 million copies, it is considered the world's best-selling digital single in 2010.
Kelsey Paine from Billboard magazine described the song as "a love letter to DJs everywhere, with hand claps that build to a crescendo of pure, infectious dance-pop". Paine referred to Ke $ ha's vocal performance on Right Round and wrote "she offers her own fun and frivolous ode to a wild night out, as she sings about drinking and men". In conclusion to her criticism, Kelsey wrote " TiK ToK reveals a knack for getting the party started." The Daily News ' Jim Farber described the song as "a vintage lick of dance candy too tooth-rottingly sweet to resist, that featured a stabbing synthesizer hook ". Fraser McAlpine of the BBC gave the song four stars out of a possible five and called the song "dirty little ditty". McAlpine also compared the song to Lady Gaga's Just Dance , as both songs are about an "exciting party night". Billy Johnson, Jr. of Yahoo! compared Tik Tok with the 80s L'Trimm hit Cars that Go Boom and said Ke $ ha "take [n] on L'Trimm's vocal styling for her own hit".
Nick Levine from Digital Spy gave the song four out of five stars, describing Ke $ ha as a "hussy image", but praising the song and its content. Levine described Dr. Luke's production as "bouncy" and "bubblegummy". Levine praised the chorus of the song with the words "stonking great" and "completely trashy in the best possible way". Allmusic's David Jeffries called the song "fun" and called it one of the best songs on the album.
Jonah Weiner from Slate magazine criticized the song and wrote "the song sets up ship on the fault line between charmingly daft and deeply irritating". He then compared the song with other artists "the rapped verses are sub- Fergie- grade, proudly stuffed with groaners and to-hell-with-the-expiration-date slang". Weiner called the song a continuation of Just Dance and continued "girl wakes up drunk, stays drunk, finds a dance floor and (spoiler alert) gets even drunker". Jon Caramanica from The New York Times said of the song "if anyone should feel fleeced by Tik Tok, though, it's Lady Gaga , who probably hears significant chunks of her hit Just Dance in its melody and subject matter."
Cover version
The British band The Midnight Beast parodied the song with a nonsense text. It has been accessed over 12 million times on the internet. Ke $ ha described the cover version on her Twitter account as: “Holy. S ** t. This is better than my version. ”On January 15, 2010, the cover version was released on iTunes . It reached number 4 in Australia.
Comedian Julie Brown parodied the song with her single Another Drunk Chick on her album Smell the Glamor (2011). Avril Lavigne sang an acoustic version of the song on a BBCsRadio-1 session.
The Israel Defense Forces also parodied Tik Tok under the title IDF Tik Tok in 2010. They published a video on the Internet in which the Israeli soldiers dance to their parody. Tik Tok was also used for an opening sequence in The Simpsons series for the episode Nedtropolis , in which the characters sing Tik Tok .
The cast of the musical series Glee sang Tik Tok in the episode Blame It on the Alcohol , with Heather Morris as the lead singer. Todd VanDerWerff of The AV Club wrote that the use of the song in the series was not exactly original; they really wanted a Kesha song in their Glee series . However, VanDerWerff wrote "REALLY liked Heather Morris 'rendition of the song." Sandra Gonzalez of Entertainment Weekly also praised Heather Morris' performance with Tik Tok. Rolling Stone magazine's Erica Futterman also praised Morris's cover of Tik Tok.
