Your Love Is My Drug is a song by the American singer and songwriter Kesha from her debut album Animal . It was released as the third single from the album on May 14, 2010. The song was written by Kesha, Pebe Sebert and Ammo who performed the song with Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco co-produced. The first work on "Your Love Is My Drug" took place during a flight. Kesha said the song had a worry-free message and shouldn't be taken too seriously.
Since the single was released, it has reached the top 5 in Australia and the United States and the top 10 in Canada. It has sold more than two million copies in the United States alone.
Writing the song and inspiration
"Your Love Is My Drug" was written by Kesha with her mother Pebe Sebert and Joshua Coleman. The song was written by Dr. Luke , Benny Blanco and Ammo produced. In an interview with MTV, Kesha said the song was written on an airplane ("written on an airplane, in like 10 minutes") and that the song has a carefree message; it is stupid and fun and not to be taken too seriously. When asked about the last line in the song ("I like your beard") and how it came about, Kesha explained, "I've always been into bearded guys. Hi, I'm from Nashville , I grew up among hillbillies ... the redneck look is hot right now and that's great for me. I'm over guys who try to look like they 're in boy bands. "Your Love Is My Drug" is a medium tempo song and a mix between the electro pop and dance pop genres. The song combines strong auto-tune effects, which are overlaid by a strong electronic backdrop . Sara Anderson of AOL Radio called the song a “ bubblegum song”, elements of glam rock of the 1980s, with “Kesha's typical auto-tune voice and occasional chatty improvisations” ("Kesha's signature auto-tuned vocals and casual chatty ad -libs ") united. According to the sheet music published by Musicnotes, the song is written in 4/4 time with an average rate of 120 beats per minute . The song is composed in the key of F sharp major and Kesha's voice ranges from the note C sharp 4 to the note C sharp 5 .

Fraser McAlpine of the British broadcaster BBC praised the song and Kesha for finding its way through a strong pop chorus, giving the single four out of five stars. McAlpine noted that evidence of range would be welcomed at this point because it showed a completely different side of her that one would never have known if one had only listened to the singles ("some evidence of range would be welcomed at this point, [...] [since] there's a whole other side to her that you'd never know if you just listened to the singles "). He continues the review to make a final judgment: "Although her appearance reveals too much of her bad habits, she has nonetheless created a kind of mystical cloud around herself" ("even though her 'act' is to be far too revealing about." her dirty habits, she has still managed to create something of a mystique cloud around herself ").
Monica Herrera of Billboard magazine was impressed by the song and called it "blissful". She went on to compliment the strong chorus, which has the ability to "stick with the listener for days".
Sara Anderson of AOL Radio called the song a playful excerpt from a teenage love obsession ("a playful take on a teen love obsession"), praised Kesha's distinctive auto-tune voice and random chatty improvisations ("Kesha's signature auto-tuned vocals and casual chatty ad-libs "). Anderson commented on the chorus of the song and called it a modern, Cyndi Lauper- influenced chorus ("a modern Cyndi Lauper-inspired chorus").
About.com's Bill Lamb had mixed feelings about the song. Lamb was extremely impressed by the song's catchy hook and the upbeat, positive lyrics, but criticized the chorus for its predictability ("predictab [ility]") and the tasteless electro-music background music ("cheesy electro-pop backing"). He continued the review by stating, "I wanted to step back from the speakers and tell her to turn the volume down when she starts singing," Your love, your love, your love is my drug "". Digital Spy’s Robert Copsey gave the song four stars out of five. Honey directed the music video for the song. It was shot on April 6th and 7th, 2010 in the desert near Lancaster , California. It premiered on May 13, 2010 at 12:01 p.m. on Vevo . Kesha described the concept behind the video in an interview: "I wanted it to be like a psychedelic excursion of the mind, comparable to being so disgustingly in love with someone that you lose your head." The video begins with Kesha waking up next to the object of her love; she then prepares to run away while being chased by a man. Kesha walks through the desert while split scenes are shown of her riding an elephant and wearing a tiger mask while crawling around in the sand. They are later seen singing on a boat while they pretend to row and animated water is added.
Then a fully animated scene is cut in which Kesha is shown as a mermaid. The mermaid and the man exchange a kiss; the video then jumps to a scene on a rocky range of hills where Kesha is walking around in the sand while the man stands on a rock above her. The video then cuts to another scene where Kesha is covered in embers on the dark body paint while she is dancing around a cave with a python around her neck. The video ends with Kesha and her lover sitting around a campfire while they are still in the desert.
reception
MTV's James Montgomery said that "Your Love Is My Drug" is "a supremely catchy pop tune" and that the video is "the perfectly blissed-out accompaniment." would. Montgomery scolded the video for “not making much sense”, but noted “that hardly matters” because “Kesha has a perfect formula for pop success stumbled: Don't think too big or too much. Chart placements
In January 2010, due to heavy download sales in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, the song debuted at number 48, 27, and 63, respectively. In the United States, the song was in the charts Charts before it fell out and then re-entered at number 92 in the week of April 3, 2010. After weeks of constantly increasing chart positions, the single reached fourth place as the best position, where it stayed for two weeks. This made Kesha her third top ten hit in the United States. The song debuted at number 63 on the UK singles chart and dropped out the following week. The single went back to number 60 in the week of May 16, 2010. After four weeks of steady growth, it reached number 13 on June 19, 2010. "Your Love Is My Drug" stayed in the UK Top 20 longer than its higher-ranked predecessor " Blah Blah Blah ". In New Zealand, the song debuted at number 29 and rose to number 15 by May 17, 2010. The single entered the ARIA charts at number 25, and the following week it rose to number 17 by June 6, 2010 the song reached number 3.
