Timber is a song by the US rapper Pitbull in collaboration with the US singer Ke $ ha . The song was released as the lead single on Pitbull's Extended Play Meltdown on October 7, 2013 . The song was produced by Dr. Luke , Cirkut and Sermstyle.

Timber achieved high chart positions internationally, including number one in Germany, Austria, Great Britain and the United States.

Background and musical

Both performers had previously supported each other on various projects, including a remix version of Kesha's song Tik Tok . Pitbull said in an interview that Rihanna was originally supposed to be recording Timber with him . However, she canceled due to time constraints, as she was also asked to record her song Can't Remember to Forget You in collaboration with Shakira .

Timber was led by Dr. Luke, Cirkut and Sermstyle produces and contains samples from San Francisco Bay by Danish harmonica player Lee Oskar . The song contains country and folk influences, is written in G sharp minor and has a chord progression from G m – B – F –E, Kesha's vocal range extends from G 3 to B4. The song, composed in four-four time , has a tempo of 130 beats per minute .

Music video

Kesha filmed her scenes in the music video on November 5th, 2013. Pitbull's scenes were filmed on November 12, 2013. As of June 2020, the video on YouTube had 1.2 billion views.

Commercial win

Timber was an international success and reached the top chart positions in many countries. The song reached on January 18, 2014 number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making it, according to Tik Tok and We R Who We R second, Ke $ ha and Pitbull third number-one song in the United States . In Germany , Timber was also able to fight its way to number one in the single charts and was able to stay there for a total of four weeks with interruptions throughout the year. In the German airplay charts , the single also reached the top position for a week . The song reached the top position in the UK singles charts in early January 2014, where it was Ke $ has and Pitbull's third number one hit. Further placements in first place came among others in Austria, Finland, Canada, Croatia and the Netherlands.
