Animal ( German: Tier ) is the debut album by the American pop singer Kesha . It was released on January 5th, 2010. The album belongs to the dance-pop genre and combines elements of electro and electro-pop . It debuted at number 1 in the US and sold more than 2 million copies worldwide.

The lead single from the album Tik Tok was an international success. In Germany alone, Tik Tok was able to stay at the top of the charts for a total of 6 weeks. Globally, the song was also the most downloaded song of 2010 with 12.8 million legal downloads. The following singles Blah Blah Blah , Your Love Is My Drug and Take It Off all reached the top 10 in Canada, Australia and the USA.

Kesha wrote songs for Miley Cyrus and The Veronicas , among others, and worked with rapper Flo Rida on the hit Right Round before starting her solo career. Kesha began working on her first studio album back in 2003, seven years before it was released. She wrote over 200 songs, 15 of which eventually made it onto the album. When asked how much the album is related to her life, Kesha stated that the album was completely autobiographical. "I write about what I experience. [...] I think there is a great pop song in everything and everyone, in every situation."

Music genre

Stylistically, the album is a dance-pop album. There are also auto-tune effects and vocoder used to change Kesha's voice. The album also contains samples . The lyrics in Animal deal with partying ( TiK ToK , Party At A Rich Dude's House ), devious friends ( Backstabber ), love ( Your Love Is My Drug , Stephen ), to grief and heartbreak ( Blind , Dancing With Tears In My Eyes ).
