Die Young (in German : Die Young) is a song by the American singer Kesha . The song was released on September 25, 2012 as the lead single of their second studio album Warrior . The song was written by Kesha and Nate Ruess and written by Benny Blanco , Dr. Luke and Henry Walter produced.

The Young achieved top 40 placements within the top 10 in both the British single charts and the Billboard Hot 100 , as well as in the Ö3 Austria . For over 150,000 units sold, the song was awarded a gold record in Germany by the Federal Music Industry Association.

Musical

Die Young is a dance-pop and electro -pop song written by Benny Blanco and Dr. Luke has been produced. The text is by Nate Ruess in collaboration with Kesha. Kesha herself stated that she had embarked on a spiritual journey before working on her second studio album Warrior and that these experiences were incorporated into the lyrics of Die Young . The song is written in C sharp minor , Kesha's voice range extends from B 3 to C 5 . The song, composed in four-four time , has a tempo of 130 beats per minute .

criticism

The Young received mixed reviews. Many critics saw this song as a typical Kesha song, for example Seventeen magazine or Rolling Stone . Stephan Müller from Plattentests.de, on the other hand, found all the numbers on Kesha's album Warrior “exchangeable and exchangeable”, including Die Young which “also passed through as Flo Rida's number ”. It was criticized that Die Young has similarities to other productions by Dr. Luke has, for example teenage legend of Katy Perry or Domino from Jessie J . The use of automatic pitch correction was also criticized.

Commercial win

The Young achieved high chart positions worldwide. The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 on October 13, 2012 and achieved second place as the best placement behind Diamonds by Rihanna . It was Kesha's eighth top 10 chart placement in the Billboard Hot 100. In the British single charts with number 7 and in the Ö3 Austria Top 40 with number 4, the song achieved further top 10 positions. In Germany, Die Young only reached number 20 in the German single charts , but was able to sell over 150,000 times over the years and was therefore awarded a gold record. It was only in 2014 that the Federal Music Industry Association raised the threshold for awarding a gold record to 200,000 copies.

Radio ban

After the rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, in which a total of 28 people, including 20 children, were killed, most radio stations in the United States withdrew the song because they believed the text was Die Young had acquired an unwanted ambiguity. Kesha himself expressed understanding for this decision. In the coming days the song lost over 19 million listeners as a result.
