True Colors ( English "true colors" [literally], "showing one's true face" [analogously]) is a song by the German - Russian DJ Zedd . The song was written jointly by Antonina Armato, Tim James and Anton Zaslavski (Zedd). The single was produced by Zedd and the Rock Mafia producer team (Antonina Armato, Tim James and Paul Palmer). The song was originally released under the Interscope Records music label and distributed through Universal Music Publishing . The single was released under the music labels Interscope Records, Kemosabe Records and RCA Records and distributed by Kobalt Songs Music Publishing and Zedd Music Empire . The first release of True Colors took place as an album track on Zedd's second studio album of the same name, True Colors, on May 11, 2015. On the album there is a version that was officially issued as a solo release by Zedd, but does not include vocal recordings by Tim James disclosed by the contributors. A remix by the US-American EDM duo Gray can be found on a Japanese special release of the album . The single / cover version with Kesha was released on April 29, 2016 as a single download.
