Fairground Attraction was a British acoustic - pop group , which by their first hit Perfect became known in early 1988th

Band history and work

After starting out in clubs and bars, the band joined RCA in 1987 and released their first single Perfect in March 1988. The song reached number 1 on the UK charts .

Her album The First of a Million Kisses was a characteristic mixture of folk , jazz , country and Cajun elements. The songs on the long player, except for Whispers from Eddi Reader , were written by Mark E. Nevin. It was released in May 1988, entered the album charts at number 3, climbed to number 2 and went double platinum .

Three more singles were released from the album by the beginning of 1989: Find My Love (UK number 7), A Smile in a Whisper and Clare . At the British Awards in 1989, the group won an award for Perfect for best single and for The First of a Million Kisses for best album.

Fairground Attraction was popular in other European countries and even performed in the United States , but the band had their greatest success outside of Europe in Japan . During the 1990 tour there, the group's only live album, Kawasaki Live in Japan, was created .

In September 1989 the recordings for the second LP Ay Fond Kiss began . In January 1990 the band broke up; Rumors of the end had been around before. The second album and the last single Walking After Midnight were released in May 1990.
