Vadim Garbuzov

Vadim Garbuzov ( Ukrainian Вадим Борисович Гарбузов / Wadym Boryssowytsch Harbusow ; born May 8, 1987 in Kharkiv , Ukrainian SSR , USSR ) is a Canadian - Austrian dancer of Ukrainian origin.

Life

Garbuzov emigrated to Vancouver , Canada with his parents in 1994 , where he was granted Canadian citizenship. He started dancing in Canada, both in Canada and in the Ukraine he was multiple junior and youth champion in standard and Latin dances.

In 2004 he came to Austria looking for a new dance partner, where he continued his dance career with Kathrin Menzinger . The dance couple won the youth championship title in Austria in 2005 in both disciplines, in 2005 they reached the final of the WDSF (World Dance Sport Federation) youth championship in a combination of 10 dances as well as the 12th place at the Latin Youth World Championships and the 16th place Place at the Standard Youth World Championship.

In 2006 he won the Austrian State Champion title 1 in the combination of 10 dances and reached the semifinals at the World Championships in combination with 10th place. In 2007 he received Austrian citizenship. His dance partner had to take an injury-related break in 2007-2008, which he used to complete his studies at the "Academy for Physical Culture" in Kharkiv with a master's degree as a sports teacher and dance sports trainer. In 2010 he - again with his dance partner Kathrin Menzinger - was able to achieve success in dance again with 4th place at the European Cup in combination.

In 2012 he started in ballroom and latin with freestyle or show dance and was able to win the Austrian championship in this discipline in the same year, as well as in 2013. Internationally, he reached the finals when he first competed at a show dance world championship in the standard show dance in Beijing 2012. In 2013 he succeeded in the standard and Latin discipline with a 5th and 6th place, also at the WDSF Showdance World Championships in Beijing 2013. In the same year, the first took place in Kaoshiung, Taiwan World Dancesport Games of the WDSF, where he was able to occupy a 4th and 5th place in the final of the show dance competitions.

In 2011 he took part in the 6th season of the ORF production Dancing Stars as a professional partner of Alfons Haider . As a partner in the first male dance couple in this TV format, he became known throughout Austria, and foreign media reported about it. In the same year he took part - with his partner Kathrin Menzinger - as a show dance couple in the " Starnacht am Wörthersee", also produced by ORF .

In 2012 he again belonged to the team of professional dancers of the ORF production Dancing Stars , where he won the 7th season of the series together with his dance partner, the Austrian pop singer Petra Frey .

In that year he also began his choreography work at the Filmhof Wein4tel in Asparn / Zaya and in the Vienna Metropol, together with his dance partner Kathrin Menzinger, he drew freely for the choreography for the musical "The Taming of the Shrew" directed by Vicky Schubert Shakespeare, in charge.

Since 2012 he has been employed as an army athlete in the Austrian Armed Forces in HLSZ 02 in the federal sports center Südstadt. In 2013 again at Dancing Stars as a professional dancer, he and Susanna Hirschler reached fifth place in the 8th season of Dancing Stars .

In summer 2013 he was responsible for the choreography of the world premiere of the musical “Der Hofnarr” (based on the Danny Kaye film The Court Jester) for the Wiener Metropol and the Filmhof Wein4tel. Also worth mentioning is a live TV appearance by Florian Silbereisen on his ARD show “Summer Festival of Folk Music” in Graz.

At the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in 2014 , he and his dance partner Kathrin Menzinger performed the waltz “On the beautiful blue Danube” according to their own choreography live in the Wiener Musikverein in front of an audience of millions on the worldwide ORF broadcast.

In 2014 he took part in the ORF show Dancing Stars for the fourth time with Roxanne Rapp . The couple won the show in the final against Marco Angelini & Maria Santner . The two of them received the maximum number of points, 40, from the jury with their favorite dance in the final.

In 2015 he took part in the eighth season of the RTL dance show Let's Dance with Beatrice Richter . The couple reached ninth place.

On June 7, 2015, Vadim Garbuzov and his partner Kathrin Menzinger became World Champion of the WDSF Professional Division in the Latin Show Dance category. In July 2015, the couple announced the end of their private relationship after seven years. In November Menzinger and Garbuzov also became world champions at the World Championships for Professionals in Showdance Standard.

In 2016 he was Franziska Traub's dance partner in the ninth season of Let's Dance . Traub had to retire before the third episode due to an injury. In episode four, Garbuzov performed with Sonja Kirchberger after her dance partner Ilia Russo suffered a lumbago during training. In 2017 he danced with Chiara Ohoven , in 2018 with Tina Ruland .

In 2019 he was part of the cast of the first Let's Dance Live tour, with which he toured 16 German city dwellers.

In 2020 Vadim Garbuzov will appear again at Dancing Stars. He replaces Willi Gabalier , who can no longer continue his engagement after the season has been postponed from spring to autumn 2020. Garbuzov's dance partner is the athlete Michaela Kirchgasser .
