The ninth season of the Live - dance show Let's Dance ran between 11 March and 3 June 2016th
The show
After the first candidate, Michael Wendler , was announced in the jungle camp final on January 30th , the broadcaster gradually announced all the other participants in the following week until February 4th. For the second time 14 dance couples took part in the competition.
In the fourth broadcast, a new kind of group battle celebrated its premiere. For this purpose, all male and female celebrity and professional dancers each formed a team and worked together to develop their own choreography, which was to be inspired by the video clip of the given music contribution. The men presented themselves to Everybody (Backstreet's Back) by the Backstreet Boys , while the women tried to convince the Spice Girls about Wannabe . For both performances there was a unanimously decided group number of points, which was also included in the rating achieved up to that point and the resulting ranking.
The traditional dance duel, which was on the program in the seventh program, was modified so that both teams developed their own choreography for the first time for the same music title and the “captains” were not determined by the audience or participants, but rather by the two highest scores in the previous show. Sarah Lombardi was allowed to lead the “Ullinators” team, to which she chose Eric Stehfest, Alessandra Meyer-Wölden and Ulli Potofski, while Julius Brink chose Jana Pallaske, Victoria Swarovski and Nastassja Kinski, whereupon she decided on the name “Heart- Core ". The respective professional partners of the candidates also worked in both groups.
In the eighth show, which had the motto “Around the World”, dance styles found their way back into the show after 2014 with merengue, lindy hop and lambada that had never been part of the show before. Another novelty was the fusion as a couple dance in Show 10 (in seasons 6 and 7 it was already on the program in the form of team battles). It combines two completely different dance styles, which the candidates have already learned in advance, and was danced to the same music title. The direct dance duels introduced in 2015 by two remaining couples for the same choreography as well as the improv dances, which the semi-finalists had to work out within just 20 minutes, were further established in the same form.
Franziska Traub suffered a serious knee injury during dance training for the third show and as a result could no longer participate in the competition. Due to a disrespectful tweet after Roger Cicero's death , however, Niels Ruf was not allowed to move up as the last resignee, as the format's regulations actually provide. Instead, Ulli Potofski - despite his wife's heart attack shortly before the start of the show, but at her request - took Traub's place, which originally had to leave the floor after the first show.
Only a few days later, professional dancer Ilia Russo suffered a lumbago, which is why Sonja Kirchberger was given Traub's dance partner Vadim Garbuzov for further training and the following performance . During the dress rehearsal for the fourth show, Julius Brink then felt a stabbing pain, which turned out to be a groin strain. As a result, he was on sick leave for seven to ten days and was unable to attend the fifth program. A family bereavement also forced Victoria Swarovski to take a one-week break. Although she presented her dance performance two days after the event, she then necessarily asked for a break for the following week. Although she eventually broke her rib during the resumption of training, she was able to remain in the following laps without falling out again. Michael Wendler , on the other hand, was unable to return to the floor for a final performance in the final after a circulatory collapse.
During the finale on the evening of June 3rd to 4th, the start of the new channel RTLplus was celebrated at midnight, shortly before the final placements were announced .

Victoria Swarovski and Erich Klann won the final with a slow waltz to Sarah Connors Wie schön Du bist (30 points), a samba to the song Lean On by Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. Mø (29 points) and the freestyle to a medley from The Mask with excerpts from the songs Hey! Pachuco! ( Royal Crown Revue ), Tango in the Park (Orchestral Score, Randy Edelman feat. The Irish Film Orchestra), This Business of Love ( Domino ) and Cuban Pete ( Jim Carrey ) (28 points).
