Heartbreaker (Dionne Warwick Song)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heartbreaker is a single by American pop and soul singer Dionne Warwick that was released in 1982. The song was written by the Bee Gees , Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb, with Barry Gibb in the background vocals of the chorus. The song was produced by Barry Gibb , Karl Richardson and Albhy Galuten and mixed at the recording studios Middle Ear, Miami Beach and Media Sound, New York. It was a single from the album of the same name, had a length of 4:16 minutes and was released on the Arista Records label. On the B-side of the single is the song I Can't See Anything (But You) , which was written by Barry Gibb, Albhy Galuten, and Maurice Gibb.

The song hit the top of the charts around the world and is one of the biggest hits of Warwick's career. It reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1983 and was also a No. 1 adult contemporary hit. In the UK Singles Charts, the song reached number 2 for two weeks in November 1982.

Warwick stated in Wesley Hyatt's Billboard Book of Number One Adult Contemporary Hits that she did not love the song, but recorded it because she trusted the Bee Gees' judgment that it would be a hit. It turned out that the song would be Warwick's most successful solo release of the 1980s. The Bee Gees recorded a version with Barry Gibb as singer, which was released on the albums Their Greatest Hits , The Record and Love Songs.

In 2004, J-Pop singer Junichi Inagaki released a cover version of Heartbreaker in Japanese on his album Revival II. In 2007, German reggae pop band Blue Lagoon had a cover version of "Heartbreaker" on their album Sentimental Fools, which was also released as a single and reached number 57 in Switzerland.
