John Powell (2008)

John Powell (born September 18, 1963 ) is a film music composer born in England.

biography

He studied viola and composition with Richard Arnell at Trinity College of Music in London and has won several prizes. He then worked as a composer for commercials. In 1980 he wrote the first film music for the Air-Edel publishing house in Independently Thinking Music. In 1985 he founded the Media Arts Group with Gavin Greenaway and Michael Petry. In addition to film music, he also composed soundtracks for art installations by Petry, which have been shown in exhibitions in Europe, the USA and Japan. In 1997 John Powell moved to the United States and worked with composers such as Harry Gregson-Williams , Patrick Doyle and Hans Zimmer . In 2011 he received his first Oscar nomination for the animated film How To Train Your Dragon .
