The hit is 3:51 minutes long and appeared on the Make It Big album . On the B-side of the single is an instrumental version of the song.
George Michael got the idea for the hit from a message from his friend Andrew Ridgeley with the same title , reminding his mother to wake him up before going to work. This sentence with the accidentally double-spelled go inspired him, and he wrote the song shortly afterwards.
Music video
The music video was filmed at the Carling Academy Brixton in London and directed by Andy Morahan . In the plot of the video, the duo, accompanied by the background singers Pepsi & Shirlie and other accompanying musicians, plays the song in front of a crowd of schoolchildren and wears T-shirts with the capitalized slogan CHOOSE LIFE, which is directed against drug abuse and suicide .
