Music from the Edge of Heaven is the third studio album by British pop duo Wham! . It was released on July 1, 1986 on Columbia Records .
Creation and publication
The album was only released in Japan and North America ; in other areas, The Final was released instead . Both albums have similarities. However, The Final also contains all of the band's main singles, making it more of a greatest hits album. Since it was not released in the UK, unlike The Final , Music from the Edge of Heaven was not included in the CD remastering series. The album cover was designed by George Michael with Peter Saville.
Last Christmas was previously only released as a single - back in December 1984 - and was thus released for the first time on an album. The Edge of Heaven , Battlestations , Wham Rap! '86 and Where Did Your Heart Go? were re-recorded for the album, according to the liner notes. Battlestations and Where Did Your Heart Go? also appeared on The Final . However, other titles have been changed slightly. The version of A Different Corner contains an intro that cannot be found anywhere else except in the music video of the song. The version of I'm Your Man has also been slightly revised and includes a newly recorded spoken bridge . In addition, the track Blue (live in China) can only be found on this album.
A box set of the band's three studio albums, entitled Original Album Classics , was released on March 20, 2015, including this album.
The album was first released on iTunes in the UK and made available for download in late 2017.
reception
The album reached number ten on the Billboard 200 and number nine in Japan and Canada . It was certified platinum in the USA. It also achieved platinum status in Canada. AllMusic described the album as more of a “hodgepodge” of titles than a “coherent album”. Nevertheless, the rating was 3.5 out of five stars.
