Andrew Ridgeley

Andrew John Ridgeley (born January 26, 1963 in Windlesham , Surrey ) is a British singer , songwriter and guitarist . He was born in 1981 as a member of the music duo Wham! known.

Life

Andrew Ridgeley was born in 1963 in Windlesham, England, to the teacher and painter Jennifer Jill Dunlop, born in 1943, and Albert Mario Ridgeley (1932–2015), the former Leica director. He grew up in Bushey , where he attended the Bushey Meads School.

In 1981 he founded the music duo Wham! Together with his classmate and childhood friend George Michael , with whom he had already played in bands . . After its dissolution, Ridgeley went to Monaco and in 1986 tried unsuccessfully as a Formula 3 racing driver in the David Price Racing team on a Reynard 863 ( Volkswagen ), damaged some racing vehicles and had difficulties finding sponsors .

After trying to gain a foothold in the film business in Los Angeles , he returned to England in 1990 and was signed as a solo artist by Columbia Records. He released a solo album called Son of Albert , related to his father , but was able to draw on the success of Wham! do not tie in. The single Shake reached number 16 in the Australian charts, the second Red Dress did not have a chart success . Both singles appeared on several samplers . The album itself achieved the greatest success with number 63 in the Australian album charts, whereupon Columbia Records terminated the contract.

Ridgeley was married to Bananarama singer Keren Woodward until 2017 , with whom he has a son. For a while he ran Bar 92 in Rickmansworth . He lives in Cornwall . In December 2019, his autobiography Wham! George & Me in German.
