Club Tropicana represents a mild departure from earlier Wham! Songs with political themes. It is a satire on inexpensive package tours for young singles with hedonistic personalities. In the UK, it ranked 39th on the list of best-selling singles of all time.
The publication took place in July 1983. The representatives of George Michael’s heirs refused to use the title "Club Tropicana" for the musical of the same name .
