It's 5:08 minutes long on the single and appeared on the Make It Big album . On the B-side is an instrumental version of the song. There is also a 7:14 minute long version. The album version and the single remix are 5:00 and 5:01 minutes, respectively.
In Great Britain, Freedom was the tenth best-selling single of 1984. The song is about turbulent experiences in a destructive relationship in which one partner loves another. George Michael designed his hit Faith based on this song . The song could be heard in a commercial for Maxell compact cassettes.
The music video was shot while on tour in Beijing , China .
