La Plaiv
La Plaiv ( Graubünden region of the north-eastern Upper Engadin between La Punt-Chamues-ch and S-chanf .
) denotes theSurname
The Rhaeto-Romanic name in the idiom Puter (the v is spoken like f) means literally translated "the parish" and is explained by the fact that the landscape is roughly congruent with the former parish of Zuoz with the San Luzi church as the center.
history
The La Plaiv area is the result of the late medieval rivalry between Samedan and Zuoz and the division of the Upper Engadine into two judicial communities with a common border at the Funtauna Merla near the former settlement of Las Agnas .
present
Today the Plaiv is marketed as "the other Engadine" in contrast to the top tourist destinations around sophisticated St. Moritz , the Upper Engadine lakes and the Bernina region .
