Coco
Coko (also Cheryl "Coko" Clemons , born Cheryl Gamble ; born June 13, 1973 in New York City , USA ) is an American R&B / Gospel singer, songwriter and music producer . She is a member of the pop / R&B trio SWV , which dissolved in 1999 and re-founded in 2005.
Career
Coko first became known in 1993 as a member of the SWV group, also known as Sisters With Voices. Together with Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George and Leanne "Lelee" Lyons she had chart successes in the USA. With them she worked with BLACKstreet , Puff Daddy and Missy Elliott, among others , and recorded hits like Weak , Right Here and Can We . In addition to the songs by SWV, her solo song Men In Black , a collaboration with rapper / actor Will Smith , became a hit in 1998 and reached the top of the singles charts in Germany , Great Britain , Austria , Switzerland and Australia . The song was the theme song for the movie Men in Black .
After the girl group SWV split up for the first time in 1999, they released the song Sunshine, produced by Rodney "DarkChild" Jerkins . Although this was only moderately successful, Coko's debut album Hot Coko was released a few months later . But neither this nor the single Triflin ' (feat. Eve ) that was released from it fulfilled expectations.
6 years after her solo debut, she decided to release her second album Grateful , a gospel long player with guest appearances by Lil 'Mo , Faith Evans and Fantasia . The gospel CD was placed in the top ten of the Billboard Gospel Albums and reached roughly the sales figures of its predecessor.
