Kirk Franklin
Kirk Franklin (born January 26, 1970 in Fort Worth , Texas ) is an American gospel musician.
biography
Kirk Franklin grew up with his great-aunt Gertrude Franklin, she was 64 years old at the time of his birth. At the age of four he began to be interested in playing the piano and received his first piano lessons. He later sang in the church choir and at the age of eleven took over the direction of the Mt. Rose Baptist Church Adult Choir.
As a teenager, he founded the gospel group The Humble Hearts . The American gospel choir director Milton Bigham was so impressed by the recording of Franklin's own composition that he invited the then 20-year-old to lead the choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention in 1990. In 1992 he founded the family with which he brought his first successful gospel album Kirk Franklin & Family to the American market in 1993 . Since then he has been one of the most important performers in the American gospel scene.
music
His music is characterized by its great diversity: from quiet ballads like Lean on Me , he bridges the gap to funk and hip-hop in titles like Brighter Day and My Desire or to Latin and salsa music in He reigns . Typical of his music are long unanimous choir passages (often only sung by the female voices) and Franklin's short shouts , with which he cheers on singers and band. Another trademark of Kirk Franklin's live performances is his dance performance on stage.
