history

The single sparked the Duran-Duran hit Is There Something I Should Know? from fifth, two weeks later she climbed to number one in the UK Top 40 for three weeks . It also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 . This was next to Fame on September 20, 1975 the only transatlantic number one placement in Bowie's career.

The official music video was shot in Port Jackson , Australia and shows an Aboriginal couple fighting against Western cultural imperialism. The video was described by Bowie as a "very simple, very straightforward" statement against racism. The video clip was directed by David Mallet.

The song was played regularly on the Serious Moonlight Tour (the name comes from a line of text from Let's Dance ), the Glass Spider Tour, and the Sound + Vision Tour .
