The eighth season of the Live - dance show Let's Dance began on 13 March 2015 as it had earlier announced the station on January 30, and ran until 5 June 2015. For the first time took 14 couples in the contest.
The show
As in season 5 , one evening was dominated by freestyle programs. These were now under the motto “Idols”, but this did not necessarily have to refer to the artist (s) of the music titles that the candidates were allowed to choose themselves.
Similar to the dance-off in the semifinals of the sixth season , the dance duels in broadcast 9 were designed, in which two of the remaining candidates measured each other in direct comparison. At the same time, the same dance style with joint, partly synchronous choreography (including individual solo parts of both couples), which was conceived by the respective professional dancers, was presented. In this context, rock'n'roll was danced again for the first time in five years.
In the semifinals, the couples should improvise a dance for the first time, because the dance style and music title were only announced in the current show. Afterwards, all participants had 20 minutes each to work out a one-minute choreography in a separate rehearsal room, which they had to present immediately afterwards. The tasks were selected from the pool of ten dances that had already been performed during the season.
Due to a flu-like infection and the resulting sports ban, Ralf Bauer had to involuntarily leave the competition after the seventh show. Katja Burkard , who had left a few days earlier, and her dance partner Paul Lorenz were given a new chance.
Also due to the largest field of participants of 14 couples who had competed so far , three participants decided the final among themselves for the first time since the second season , with the professional dancer Ekaterina Leonova injured in the last dance.

Hans Sarpei and Kathrin Menzinger won the final with a samba to the song All Night Long (All Night) by Lionel Richie (24 points), a hip-hop to Michael Jackson's Black or White (29 points) and the freestyle to an Africa - Medley with excerpts from the songs We Are the World ( USA for Africa ), Earth Song (Michael Jackson) and Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) ( Shakira feat. Freshlyground ) (29 points).
