We Are One (Ole Ola) is a song by the American rapper Pitbull , which was created in collaboration with singers Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte . It was released on April 8, 2014 as the official anthem of the 2014 World Cup .
Background and musical
On January 22nd, 2014 it was announced that We Are One (Ole Ola) will serve as the official song of the 2014 World Cup. There were a total of three different versions of the title after it was released. The original mix, which was the first to be released in Germany, was 3:42 minutes long. The Olodum Mix published on iTunes was 3:56 minutes in length. After the opening ceremony of the soccer world championship, a special opening ceremony version with a length of 5:21 was published.
criticism
Carl Williott from Idolator complained that there was too much Pitbull and too little Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte in the song, and he also thought the song was a copy of Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) .
Commercial win
We Are One (Ole Ola) reached number 6 in the single charts in Germany and was awarded gold . In Switzerland the song reached number 2 and was also awarded gold there. The song reached number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 29 in the UK.
