On the floor is a song by American singer Jennifer Lopez , she together with US rapper Pitbull has recorded. The song was the first single from Lopez's seventh studio album Love? and was released on February 11, 2011 by Island Records . The song was produced by the music producer RedOne . The song reached number one in the charts in many countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland . In these countries, the song with the best-selling songs also became the most successful track of 2011.

The song first appeared as backing music to Lopez L'Oréal commercial on the Internet; the official premiere took place on January 16, 2011 during the presentation of the 68th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles . The song was the second collaboration between Lopez and Pitbull, after the promo single Fresh Out the Oven, who sang the piece live for the first time on May 5, 2011 during the American TV show American Idol .

The melody of On the Floor contains sampled elements in the chorus from the song Lambada by the band Kaoma from 1989, an initially unauthorized cover version of the piece Llorando Se Fué by the music group Los Kjarkas from 1982. The combination of the song is unusual the styles from dance music , here above all the continuous four-to-the-floor bass drum reminiscent of reggaeton with a dotted soca rhythm and the timbre of the bandoneon taken from the song Lambada .

criticism

About.com music critic Bill Lamb called the song "Jennifer Lopez's defining party rhythm," with "unstoppable dance-pop influence" and "little exotic touches . " In addition, critics found that the piece is similar to the house song Stereo Love by Edward Maya .

Music video

The video for On the Floor was shot on January 22nd and 23rd, 2011, directed by director TAJ Stansberry. An open casting was held for the video shoot in order to find suitable actors. The official premiere took place in the tenth edition of the American talent show American Idol on March 3, 2011. There the fans could vote for one of three different versions of the final scenes of the video via the show's website.
