history

It starts from! had been recorded in various versions before it was first released, including a rock version and a version starring underground rapper Satanic Steve . The beat and melody for the song were provided by producer Evil Hectorr. He had produced the instrumental two years before it was first used by a gynecologist and offered it to various hip-hop musicians without success. For the first time Das geht ab! finally in 2007 as a collaboration between rappers Chuky and gynecologist. This version was made available for free download and was originally intended for Chuky's album Der Partyschreck , which did not come out.

Frauenarzt recorded the piece again with a modified text with Manny Marc, his partner at the Ghetto Musik label. The idea for this came "spontaneously" to the gynecologist and it only took about ten minutes to implement. At the end of September 2008 a video for Das geht ab! shot, which was viewed 1.4 million times on the YouTube video portal in the following six months . In addition, a remix by the rapper Blokkmonsta was released on September 30, 2008 , which he offered for free download.

It starts from! officially appeared on the sampler Atzen Musik Vol. 1 by Frauenarzt and Manny Marc, which was published on October 10, 2008 and contains, in addition to contributions by the two rappers, some titles by musicians friends such as Alexander Marcus , Techno Crew, Sady K, Spade and Major . The sampler was released by the record company Kontor Records, with which Frauenarzt and Manny Marc had been under contract since August of that year. From Atzen Musik Vol. 1 , the song Florida Lady , a collaboration between gynecologist and Manny Marc and electro musician Alexander Marcus, was first implemented as a video. Florida Lady was played on the music channel MTV and reached number 89 in the singles charts, which meant the first position in the German charts for gynecologist and Manny Marc. In an interview, the gynecologist said that Florida Lady and That goes off! his favorites on the sampler are, as they "contribute something particularly to [your] musical development".

In the following, the supporters of the football club Hertha BSC adopted the song in their stadium repertoire, which further increased the popularity of the title, so that Kontor Records decided to release it as a single on June 5, 2009. From July 2009, the gynecologist and Manny Marc received a regular weekly appearance in the Riu Palace, a discotheque in Palma de Mallorca , where it goes! as a summer hit, also on August 21, 2009 at the music show The Dome . Another song on the single is Sonnenstudio Marion , a collaboration with Schlager singer Jürgen Drews , for whom a video was previously made. Gynecologist and Manny Marc presented the World Cup version of Das geht ab! at The Dome 54 in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle .

Style and content

Frauenarzt and Manny Marc call their music "Techno-Rap" or "Atzenmusik". The term “ Atze ” is mainly used in the Berlin area as a synonym for “friend”. The inspiration for Das goes off! and the other songs in the sampler were obtained from the productions by the German band Kraftwerk, according to Frauenarzt .

It starts from! builds on an instrumental that has house style characteristics. The rhythm of the title is a 4 / 4 - stroke , the pace is about 130 beats per minute . Frauenarzt and Manny Marc each rap a verse over the electronic music, the chorus is sung in the function of a hookline . After Manny Marc's verse, there is an almost half-minute instrumental bridge before the song ends with another repetition of the hook line.

The text is about the desire for parties with music and revealing women. Frauenarzt and Manny Marc use simple ending rhymes for the stanzas . The chorus of the title consists of a line that is sung four times each time: “Hey, that's off! We Party all night! All night long. ”The two musicians appear in live performances and in the video of the piece with a large number of friends and wear brightly colored clothes and sunglasses.

Video

The video shows a party that is attended by the gynecologist, Manny Marc and other people they know, such as the rapper Smoky . The actors Michael Pink and Ahmet Olgun Han also appear as guests. They play the leading roles in the web series Moabit Vice , a satire on the television series Miami Vice , as undercover cops Sunny and Rico. At the beginning of the video for Das geht ab! Due to the popularity of the title, the text became Das geht ab! used in various modified versions. The song developed among fans of the Bundesliga soccer team Hertha BSC, initially at the club's UEFA Cup games and later into a stadium song during the successful 2008/09 season . The fans sang the text “Hey, that's off! We'll get the championship! ”To the tune of the song by gynecologist and Manny Marc. For the single release of the title, the two rappers took a "championship version" of Das geht ab! on. During a soccer game between Hertha BSC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen , gynecologist and Manny Marc presented the title in front of 50,000 spectators. In interviews, the gynecologist expressed his satisfaction that the title was not imposed on the Hertha BSC fans as a stadium anthem, but that this is happening! have discovered for yourself. For this reason, the gynecologist and Manny Marc also played the song between the supporters of the club in the east curve of the Olympic Stadium : "We didn't want to put ourselves above them, [...] we are completely normal Atzen, like the others. So we stood in there without security [...] and that [...] was very well received. "

After the performance of the Hertha BSC team deteriorated significantly in the following Bundesliga season , the melody was picked up by opposing teams and with the text “Hey, what's going on? Hertha is really relegating! ”And“ Hey, what's up! Hertha is finally getting down! ”Sung.

In the election campaign for the 2009 Bundestag election , another version was anonymously recorded and uploaded to the Internet. The melody of the original title denounces politicians of the CDU and the SPD chancellor candidate Frank-Walter Steinmeier is praised and with the refrain “Hey, what's going on? We'll get the chancellorship! ”Carefully. In public appearances by SPD politicians, the title was sung more often by supporters of the party, for example on the day before the federal election on the show TV total Bundestag election 2009 by Stefan Raab . Jens Thele, head of the record company Kontor Records , accused the SPD of indifference to intellectual property law and criticized the politicization of the "completely apolitical" title.

Frequent use found That goes off! also at the Oktoberfest 2009, where it was sung by the visitors at the celebrations. In addition, at the Oktoberfest Megaparty 2009 sampler, an “Oktoberfest 2009 Ultra Party Mix” was released, which was recorded by 1. FC Oktoberfest. The title was also played frequently during the 2010 Carnival . The Scheunenrocker group took This is off! also new on.

In the seventh season of the casting program “ Deutschland sucht den Superstar ”, the participant Thomas Karaoglan sang the song in the motto show “Ballermann vs. Ballads ”.

rating

The hip-hop magazine Juice looked at the success of the gynecologist as part of an annual review for the January / February 2009 issue of the magazine. It starts from! I am similar to older pieces by gynecologists such as Tanga Tanga , the only difference is that the rapper does without "strong expressions" and uses a catchy melody and hookline . The music of the hip-hop musician has always been shaped by the electronic style and has therefore also been mass-compatible. The success of the gynecologist, who “used to stand for a consistent refusal to face industry and the scene”, is only surprising if you don't see the “ dialectic ” behind it: “When all German rappers were still funny and friendly, the gynecologist was angry and anti-social. Now almost everyone is angry and antisocial, while the Atzenmusiker celebrates exuberantly at Ballermann or at après-ski . "

In the blog of the taz it was off! Positioned in a contribution by Christian Ihle at number five on the list of the "ten best pop songs of 2009". According to Ihle, the title is proof that " audiolithization " has reached the mainstream. The style of Das geht ab! I have little to do with hip-hop, the title is about the "celebration of hedonism ". The numerous textual changes to the song, for example as a stadium chant by the Hertha BSC club or in the SPD election campaign, show how much the single by gynecologist and Manny Marc burned itself into the “collective subconscious”.

Der Spiegel published an article on the phenomenon under the title “The Kings of Mallorca”. The success of the Berliners is described as "the pop phenomenon of this crisis summer ". The style mixes "the Berlin hip-hop underground with the booze and proletarian culture of El Arenal , which seems to be fruitful for both sides", since gangster rap and party music on Mallorca have been the same for years Music titles exist. In particular, the fact that the gynecologist, who was only active in the Berlin underground for several years, has this success, is seen as a surprise by the Spiegel editor.

In a report by the Tagesspiegel , Lucas Vogelsang dealt with "Atzen Music" and the success of Das geht ab! . From the editor's point of view, the title “turned the music scene on its head”, which was due to the fact that the project made no sense: “A former Berlin backyard rapper with a pompous attitude suddenly shouted party slogans with his best friend about pumping atari beats.” Despite this point of view the title turns into a success.
