Disco Pogo is a song by the German hip-hop musicians Frauenarzt and Manny Marc . The music for the piece was produced by stupid boys. Similar to the previous single Das geht ab! , the musicians at Disco Pogo combine hip-hop with electronic music. Gynecologist and Manny Marc each recite a stanza in the form of a rape . The single was released on January 1, 2010 on the Kontor Records label. It was number four in Austria and number two in the singles charts in Germany. By March 2010 150,000 units had been sold in Germany, so that Disco Pogo could achieve gold status .

prehistory

Originally an earlier version of Disco Pogo was in circulation on the Internet and on various video platforms , which did not come from the gynecologist and Manny Marc, but was produced in the style of the etching. Due to a faulty moderation of an internet radio station, Disco Pogo was already the successor single to Das geht ab! traded, although the later single from the Atzen did not yet exist. Gynecologist and Manny Marc were repeatedly asked about Disco Pogo during numerous concerts , which surprised them because they had not produced a single under the title. Then the title, the introductory sentence What is going on? It's party time! , some parts of the text and structures of the original version have been taken over and added again. As it turned out later, the original title Disco Pogo (We turn off!) Came from Ricky Rich (Ricky Bernasconi) feat. Disco Pogo Crew ( Seaside Clubbers ) . The Seaside Clubbers were therefore also registered as songwriters for the Atzen version.

history

At the beginning of December 2009 Disco Pogo was initially made available on the Internet as a so-called “Freetrack” free of charge. Employees of the label Kontor Records , to which gynecologist and Manny Marc are under contract, heard the free version of Atzen and suggested Disco Pogo as a new single despite the spread on the Internet. A few days later the decision was made that the song should be published on a regular basis and three weeks later a video was made for the piece, which was finally released at the end of December. In the video you can see the gynecologist, Manny Marc and other musicians from "Atzenmusik" performing at concerts. In addition to a standard version, there is also an "extended version" of the video.

The single was released on January 1, 2010 via Kontor Records . Disco Pogo was also published in the original version and a house rockerz mix on the sampler Atzen Musik Vol. 2 by Frauenarzt and Manny Marc, which was released on February 26, 2010. The song is also featured on Bravo Hits 68 . At the beginning of March, a video was created for the Aggro.TV platform as part of the “Shut Up” series. A version of the piece Disco Pogo was used for this, in which, in addition to the stanzas by Frauenarzt and Manny Marc, further stanzas by Smoky , Jope and Major McFly can be heard. Sady K and DummeJungs also play in the video. On March 5th, Gynecologist and Manny Marc Disco presented Pogo and the subsequent single Atzin at The Dome 53 in Berlin.

An English language version of the song with the participation of Jimmy Pop appeared as a bonus track on the album Show Us Your Hits by the Bloodhound Gang , which was released in December 2010.

The single for Disco Pogo rose to number 12 in the German charts in the third calendar week of 2010. In the following weeks, the song occupied positions in the top 10 and in the seventh week reached its highest ranking with second place. So far, Disco Pogo has been in the German single charts for 36 weeks. With 150,000 records sold, the single achieved gold status in March 2010. The awarding of the gold records for Disco Pogo and Das geht ab! was celebrated on April 26, 2010 in the Berlin bar Rocky Ragazzo . In 2016 Disco Pogo received a platinum record for over 300,000 sales in Germany.

In Switzerland, the single rose to position 66 on January 31, 2010. The piece reached the highest position in week eight with 22nd place. In total, Disco Pogo has been among the 100 best-selling singles in Switzerland for 32 weeks.

The song was also successful in the charts in Austria. On January 15, 2010, the single first rose to number 32 and rose to number ten the following week. With number four, the single reached its highest position. She took this for four weeks in a row. Disco Pogo has been in the Austrian charts for 36 weeks .

Evaluation of other artists

Sneezy, a member of the Hammer & Zirkel group , said in an interview about Disco Pogo : “ I just think this whole etching thing is awesome. Disco Pogo was picked up in a list by hip-hop magazine Juice of the ten most important publications by gynecologist . The song sets the “ success story of Das geht ab! seamlessly ”, although it was“ significantly harder and less catchy than the singing hymn ”of the previous summer.
