The Weather Girls is the name of an American singing duo whose music can be assigned to the areas of soul and pop and which originally consisted of Martha Wash and Izora Armstead († September 16, 2004 ).
biography
Initially, Wash and Armstead called themselves The Two Tons o 'Fun and performed as background singers for Sylvester James . From 1980 some singles appeared under this name , e. B. Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven / Do You Wanna Boogie, Hunh? , which made it to No. 2 on Billboard Dance Music / Club Play Singles in 1980 .
In 1983 The Weather Girls had an international hit with It's Raining Men, which was released the previous year . The single was most successful in England, where it reached number 2 in the charts and was awarded a silver record . In Germany and the USA, the song reached top 50 placements. Despite further publications, The Weather Girls remained commercially unsuccessful for the rest of the 1980s.
In the 1990s, Izora Armstead moved to Braunshardt and performed again with her daughter Dynelle under the name The Weather Girls. In Germany, the duo made it to the charts with 3 long players and 4 singles. The album Double Tons of Fun reached number 79 in 1994, the included new version of the classic It's Raining Men already climbed to number 45 in the single charts last year , the following single Can U Feel It also reached number 75 in 1993 and the third and final release We Shall All Be Free 1994 ranked 80th.
The 1996 album The Sound of Sex was at number 39 in April of that year, the single of the same name reached number 89. With the compilation Puttin 'on the Hits - The Ultimate Hitparty , the duo returned to the German album charts in 1998, this time on 79th place.
Together with the Disco Brothers, The Weather Girls participated in the Countdown Grand Prix 2002 , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 . The title Get Up took 13th out of 15 places.
From 2004 to 2011, Izora Rhodes Armstead's daughter Dynelle Rhodes performed with Gainesville , Georgia- born American soul singer Ingrid Arthur, her cousin, as The Weather Girls. In 2005 the album Totally Wild was created , which contains the underground club hit Wild Thang . In 2008, Break You , a feature starring Ralph Falcon, placed twelve on the US dance charts.
