Without you (I sleep tonight not a night) is a song by German pop-rock - band Münchener Freiheit . It was released on November 8, 1985 as a single from the album Von Anfang and reached number two in Germany, number one in Switzerland and Austria .
history
After a tour of Germany in 1985 with more than 80 concerts, the band released the single Ohne dich (I'm not going to sleep tonight) at the end of the year , which became a breakthrough for them. It stayed in the top positions for weeks and sold over 600,000 times. In February 1986 the corresponding compilation appeared from the beginning . Both the single and the album achieved gold status in 1986. In the German annual charts in 1986 , the song reached number seven.
The band appeared with the song three times in the ZDF hit parade ; she was voted first by TED on January 15, 1986 and was therefore allowed to perform the song again in the following edition on February 19. The group also appeared with the song in the Hits des Jahres '86 edition on January 14, 1987. In 1987 an English version called Every Time was published .

The song is a rocking love song in the middle tempo, in which the main character gives his / her lover assurances and assures in the chorus: "What I want is you". Some harder electric guitars are reminiscent of adult oriented rock of the 1980s.

Das-Bo cover version
In 2008 the German rapper Das Bo covered the song. The piece is the first single from his second studio album Dumm but smart .
Creation and artwork
The new version of Ohne dich (I'm not going to sleep tonight) is not a pure copy of the song from Munich Freedom. The music has been completely revised and converted into a dance hit, parts of the original text are almost no longer available. The chorus line "Without you (I won't sleep tonight)" became z. B. "Without Bo (we're not going home today)". The stanzas consist of a newly written German text that is rapped by Das Bo and also comes from him. The single was produced by Petone. The single was released under the Columbia Records music label . The cover of the single shows Das Bo with a boom box .
Publication and promotion
The single was released on February 15, 2008 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is available for download and as a physical maxi single . In addition to the single version, the maxi single also contains an instrumental version and a remix version of Ohne Bo , as well as the song BO (O-Oh) . as B-side . The music video was shot on a fairground , on a bumper car .
Bundesvision Song Contest 2008
In order to promote the song and itself, Das Bo took part in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2008 for Hamburg . He finished twelfth with 19 points. From his home town of Hamburg he got full points with twelve points, only from Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania he got more points. For promotional purposes, each artist shoots an election commercial for participation in the BuViSoCo. In this, Bo explains the reasons for his fear of failure to a psychiatrist . To overcome this, the psychiatrist has only one solution, participation in the Bundesvision Song Contest . In the video, Bo is supported by the German comedian Buddy Ogün .

At least 27 cover versions of the song are known. These include the Saragossa Band (1987), Mike Krüger ( Everything I want you eat , 1987), Eko Fresh (2007) and Adoro (2008). The version by Marvin Mc Kay feat. T-Seven reached number 42 in the German single charts in 2000. The artists performed the song - as the Munich freedom - on 15 April 2000. again in the ZDF hit parade on, but did not reach the top three.
In 2005 the new edition of Marry feat. Place Marc-El at number 100 in the German single charts. In December 2016, the duo Melarima, consisting of Melanie Lochner and Amir Nasr, released a cover version of the title after participating in RTL Supertalent. In March 2017, the versions of the German artist Perlentaucher with the Düsseldorf singer LYNNE and the DJ duo Anstandslos & Durchgeknallt appeared . The latter reached the German single charts in April 2017. The German-Italian version by Giovanni Zarrella feat. Pietro Lombardi was able to place himself in the German charts in 2019.
The Dutch cover version Zonder jou by Erik Mesie reached 8th place in the Dutch Top 40 in 1986.
In 2017, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) published an advertising clip on YouTube with a rewritten version of the song.
