Heartbeat of a City is the third studio album by the German pop rock band Münchener Freiheit . It was released in November 1984.

Creation and artwork

Heartbeat of a City marks the first collaboration between Münchener Freiheit and the Swiss producer Armand Volker , who was soon responsible for their greatest successes. The album was recorded with him for the first time at Rainbow Studios and Weryton Studios in Munich . The keyboards were played by Alex Grünwald and singer Stefan Zauner . In addition to the guitar tracks, Aron Strobel was also responsible for the synthesizer guitar, Michael Kunzi (bass) and Rennie Hatzke (drums) formed the rhythm section.

The music comes mainly from the songwriting duo Stefan Zauner and Aron Strobel , the well-known hit writer Michael Kunze under the pseudonym Mario Killer was partly involved in the lyrics, and Rennie Hatzke in Oh Baby . Hatzke and the songwriter Timothy Touchton co-wrote the music for the latter piece .

The cover of the album shows the band members in black and white with red lettering, Jürgen & Thomas are named as photographers.

publication

The album was released on CBS in November 1984 . The first single Oh Baby was released in advance in April 1984, the first chart success of Münchener Freiheit in Germany (number 23), with which the band also appeared twice in the ZDF hit parade with Dieter Thomas Heck and reached number two there. With the two other singles, SOS and Herzschlag ist der Takt , the group was a guest in the hit parade in February / March and June 1985, now with Viktor Worms . With SOS , Münchener Freiheit achieved first place there for the first time.

Some tracks such as Oh Baby appeared in 1987 on the English-language album Romancing in the Dark (as "Freedom"). The album hit the charts in Norway , Sweden and the Netherlands . The three singles Oh Baby , SOS and Heartbeat appeared again in 1986 on the compilation From the beginning , partly as a remix; Daughter of Venus was the CD bonus track of the compilation.
