Paco Peña (* 1. June 1942 in Cordoba , Andalusia , full name Francisco Peña Pérez ) is a Spanish flamenco - guitarist , composer and teacher.
Life
Paco Peña's mother was a very good dancer in her youth, his father a Cante Jondo singer in Cabra . Paco grew up with eight other siblings, seven of them girls.
He learned to play the guitar at the age of six from his older brother, played in an ensemble at the age of nine and made his first public appearances at the age of eleven. In 1981 he founded the Centro Flamenco Paco Peña in Calle Reloj 7 on the Plaza del Potro in Córdoba, his hometown , as a meeting place and training center . He was later appointed Artistic Director of the Córdoba International Guitar Festival . In 1985 he took up his professorship for flamenco guitar at the Rotterdam Conservatory , where he still teaches today. Paco Peña was the first flamenco guitarist to be offered a chair at a conservatory. Since it was founded in 2006, he has taught flamenco at the World Music and Dance Center (WMDC) in Rotterdam.
